"The 'Master Mind' can be defined as: Coordination of knowledge and effort in a spirit of harmony between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose." --Napoleon Hill

Within Napoleon Hill's classic masterpiece, Think And Grow Rich, the power of the MasterMind Group is evident throughout each chapter. Almost every great fortune earned and every event of great historic significance has been accomplished by harnessing the collective power of brilliant men and women's minds. Imagine the opportunity to learn how to take your business to the next level, learning step-by-step with other business owners how to increase your profits and improve your bottom line.

This power can be used to dramatically grow and expand your business and we are offering this power to a limited number of qualified participants. Each month a group, consisting of no more than 10 business owners (from non-competing industries), will meet every other week for three packed hours to learn new marketing techniques, how to implement those techniques into your business, and how to draw from the enormous amount of power and synergy that emanates from 10 minds all focused on one definite, specific goal... optimization of your business.

Participation is based upon meeting certain criteria. Not just any business owner will be allowed, but only those who are qualified and willing to do the following:

* You must be committed to the group. The MasterMind Group will meet two times a month for four months. If you miss 2 consecutive meetings, you will be asked to leave the group. Again, you must be committed to the group for it to be effective.
* You must be willing to be a vocal participant. If you wish to participate in the MasterMind group, you must actively participate in the group discussions, reporting on assignments and developing alliances. You must also be willing to share your own industry experience with the group in your own industry. If you want to just sit and watch, do not join this group. Being pro-active is a major part of the MasterMind group.
* You must be willing to learn and implement the assignments for your business. Implementation creates action and there is nothing more frustrating to the synergy of a group than to learn and create brilliant strategies and then not see them acted upon. This is not to say that you must implement every idea but you will be expected to fulfill each assignment and then report your results to the group so that everyone will benefit from this experience.

The MasterMind Group creates it's own success by the efforts of all the participants, meaning success is determined by what you put into the group. It's almost impossible for you to complete the course without seeing dramatic growth in your business. Through your participation your will see and experience the following:

* Increases In Business Performance and Financial Gain
* Personalized Coaching
* Business Networking
* Joint Ventures & Alliances
* Proven Marketing Systems

What is a Mastermind Group and How Can it Help You Succeed?

What is a mastermind group? No, we’re not talking about a secret cabal of evildoers out to take over the world. A mastermind group is simply an alliance of two or more individuals dedicating themselves to a specific goal.

Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, first defined the mastermind as a “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”

Hill’s concept of the “Master Mind” was inspired by Andrew Carnegie, wealthy steel magnate. According to Hill:

“Mr. Carnegie’s Master Mind group consisted of a staff of approximately fifty men, with whom he surrounded himself, for the DEFINITE PURPOSE of manufacturing and marketing steel. He attributed his entire fortune to the POWER he accumulated through this ‘Master Mind.’”

Since the publication of Think and Grow Rich in the 1937, the idea of mastermind groups has grown and evolved to become a staple tool of successful individuals.

The benefits of having a supportive mastermind group are plenty:

1.You have a group of people available to help you succeed.
2.You get the benefit of differing perspectives, input and feedback.
3.Your mastermind team can bring resources and connections to the table you might not have had on your own.
4.You receive accountability and inspiration from the group, thus enabling you to maintain focus in achieving your goals.

Napoleon Hill even went so far as to say there was a mystical quality created when a mastermind group was formed. He said: “No two minds ever come together without, thereby, creating a third, invisible, intangible force which may be likened to a third mind.”

In other words, your ability to create things in the world is increased by having that invisible “third mind” of the mastermind group.

Creating a mastermind group does not necessarily require 50 men, as Carnegie used. Your mastermind group can be as small as two people and as big as your ability to coordinate it.

There are two basic types of mastermind groups: One which is focused on the success and vision of one individual, and one that is focused on helping everyone in the group.

The mastermind group Carnegie had was solely directed at his personal vision. The 50 men in the group were not all there to discuss their own projects. They were all focused on one main goal: the building of a steel empire.

This is actually the classical definition of a mastermind group, and creating one isn’t as hard as you might think.

To create a mastermind group that is dedicated to helping you achieve your personal goals, you can simply reach out to people in your network and explain to them that you are seeking their help as an advisor and part of your mastermind team. Consider this your own personal board of directors.

You’d be surprised at how willing many people are to help when asked, since it is an honor to be asked for an advice or an opinion. You don’t necessarily need to meet with your entire team in person in a formal setting. You might chat with each individually on the phone, or set up an email discussion list.

Thomas Leonard, considered by many to be the founder of modern day personal coaching, used to set up what he called “R&D teams” for his projects (R&D stands for “research and development). These R&D teams he created consisted entirely of email lists where he would throw out ideas and projects for group feedback. Through this process, he was able to create a thriving coaching community at Coachville.com.

No-one was paid to be a part of Leonard’s R&D teams, but they were quite popular because they gave the members a sense of contribution and ownership in the projects.

The second type of mastermind group is one where all members of the group are meeting to support one another in achieving a goal. These types of groups are everywhere, but aren’t always named mastermind groups. An Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is a form of a mastermind group, where the members get together to support each other in their sobriety.

More often, when someone mentions that a mastermind group is forming, they mean a group dedicated to success and achievement. You can create a group that is led by a facilitator (sometimes paid), or a group that is run by members. These groups can meet in person, over a telephone conference line, or even in online chat rooms.

Finally, don’t forget that your friends and family can become a mastermind support system for you. (Unfortunately, the reverse is also true - negative friends and family can equally drag you down, so be careful.) If you don’t have the time to start or join a formal mastermind group, you might be lucky enough to find a good friend to share your successes with. Such a friend is one who unconditionally supports you and isn’t covertly blocking your progress through their own jealousies and insecurities.

Such friends are hard to find sometimes, but if you can get one, consider yourself quite lucky.

However you create a mastermind support system for yourself, consider it an essential part of your success plan. As Napoleon Hill said:

“Analyze the record of any man who has accumulated a great fortune, and many of those who have accumulated modest fortunes, and you will find that they have either consciously, or unconsciously employed the ‘Master Mind’ principle.”

The Power of the Mastermind

No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third - a third invisible, intangible force that may be likened to a third mind. You may have noticed many times that by discussing something with another person you suddenly get good ideas as a result of the discussion, ideas you would not have gotten without this association. Well, the same thing happens to the other person. A lot of good ideas have been born in individual minds as a result of having met in committee.

Associating with your mastermind alliance is not meant as a means of letting others do your thinking for you, far from it. It is meant to stimulate your own thinking through the association with other minds. No one knows everything. The more sympathetic minds you get together - that is, minds working for a common purpose - the more related information is going to be available. Great ideas are a combination of related information.

Pick the members of your mastermind group with care. Make sure they're people you respect and who are hard working and conscientious. You'll have a lot of fun, and you'll reach your goals just that much sooner.

What Are The Benefits of a Mastermind Group?

  • Mutual support. I like to form groups around a specific activity, but even with differing goals you’ll be able to lean on each other for support.  Many times when my progress has slowed on a specific goal, the members of my mastermind are the only people who really understand what has been going on behind the scenes, and give me support in spite of my failed efforts.
  • Differing perspectives.  Hearing the different views my fellow mastermind participants have allows me to see issues I wouldn’t otherwise become aware of – in my life, and in my approach to my goals.  Whether I agree with their assessment or not, it always gives me a better understanding of how I can better improve my approach.
  • Resources.  Everyone in your group will have access to a different skillset and network of people. I’ve often found that when I ask for help in my mastermind groups, these resources help me make progress in ways I never could by myself.
  • Accountability.  My fellow group members hold me accountable to goals I set.  In addition, just knowing that I have a regularly scheduled meeting internally drives me to make progress – because I don’t want to be the only person reporting back that I haven’t made an effort to move my projects forward.

Think and Grow Rich.

The text of Think and Grow Rich is founded on Hill's earlier work The Law of Success, the result of more than twenty years of research based on Hill's close association with a large number of individuals who achieved great wealth during their lifetimes.

At Andrew Carnegie's bidding, Hill studied the characteristics of these achievers and developed 15 "laws" of success intended to be applied by anybody to achieve success. Think and Grow Rich condenses these laws further and provides the reader with 13 principles in the form of a philosophy of personal achievement.
[edit] Variant editions
Napoleon Hill holding his book Think and Grow Rich
 Original Version

The first edition of Think and Grow Rich was released in March 1937. Only 5,000 copies were printed. Despite advertising for the book being mostly word of mouth, the original prints were sold out in six weeks at a price of $2.50 each. Another 10,000 copies were printed to meet demand, all of which also sold out in six weeks. The third print totaled 20,000.
2004 Abridged Version

In 2004 an abridged text was published in a version titled Think and Grow Rich: The 21st-Century Edition: Revised and Updated . It was published by High Roads Media. In this version, author/editor Bill Hartley introduces modern examples of Hill's principles combined with editorial commentary throughout the book. Some readers have expressed negative opinions of this presentation, saying the modern examples are unnecessary, useless, irritating, and the injection of outside commentary disrupts the flow of Napoleon Hill's original text.
The Original Version, Restored and Revised

In 2004, Ross Cornwell published Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised (ISBN 1-59330-200-2), which restored the book to its original content, with slight revisions, and added the first comprehensive endnotes, index, and appendix the book has ever contained. This version went into a third printing in 2008.Read more

7 Tips to Keep Your Mastermind Group

Mastermind groups are formed by professionals for a number of reasons. The three top reasons being:

1.To generate new ideas and share best practices in an effort to increase revenue and create efficiencies in each member's businesses.

2.To establish a space for accountability, goal setting and encouragement amongst entrepreneurs who are not necessarily reporting up to or being pushed by a Manager. (They are the captain of their own ship)

3.To network and cultivate possible referral relationships with other professionals.

Professionals generally enter into mastermind groups with great enthusiasm and high expectations. However, after six months to a year of meeting, many groups find that the excitement has a tendency to wane and unfortunately, the attendance then follows suit.

Here are 7 helpful tips to help keep your Mastermind group engaged, consistently attended and growing...

Tip #1-Make sure you have a variety of professionals attending who share similar pains. I've talked to Mortgage Professionals who have formed mastermind groups made up solely of Realtors or Financial Planners. This may seem like utopia for YOU, but the group will eventually suffer and may even begin to feel that your attempt to put together a mastermind group was purely self serving. Fresh perspectives, unique approaches & creative business models are more easily derived from groups that include different types of professionals. Of course, only include professionals who share in your pains (i.e. generating leads, branding one's self, team, marketing, effective sales scripts, budgeting, etc.)

Tip #2-Include creative "shake-ups." Make one of your Mastermind sessions an event that the entire group attends, like a seminar or presentation on sales techniques or social media, a chamber mixer or meetup.com event. Assign chapter readings and group discussion from popular business or self help books, like Think and Grow Rich, The Success Principles, The Tipping Point, or Taming Your Gremlin. Use one session to train on a particular product, system or new technology the group is interested in. Spend one session watching a Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield or Wayne Dyer DVD.

Tip #3-Establish a rotating guest speaker list. Assign each mastermind group member a month that they are responsible for inviting a guest speaker. The guest speaker could be a physical fitness expert, a life or business coach, a social media guru, a holistic healer, a local top salesman, a Manager sharing his/her team leadership secrets, a branding expert, a local blogging superstar, etc.

Tip #4-Share the knowledge. Post your agenda, guest speakers' names, take-aways and "aha" moments and newfound knowledge from your mastermind groups on your blog, LinkedIn and Facebook profiles. Encourage everyone in the mastermind group to do the same.

Tip #5-Don't be a venue hog. Find other locations, other than YOUR office, to hold your mastermind sessions and change it up from time to time. I had a client hold one at a local park with great success. You can also go to your local library, favorite coffee house, wine bar or bistro, community center or recreation center, pastry shop or even one of your group member's residences.

Tip #6-Introduce the 20 Questions game. When utilizing "group think" to help solve a member's current issue, dilemma, roadblock, bottleneck, conflict, etc., have each member ask that person questions about their current situation, not to exceed 20 questions. No one is to suggest or tell the person what to do, nor make statements or share their opinion. They are simply to ask questions to help the one individual experience a breakthrough and to do so without comparing, assuming one person has the solution, or inadvertently creating tension or conflict in the group.

Tip #7-Survey the group. Never assume that your members are satisfied with the current format, agenda, guest speakers, direction and/or vision of the mastermind group. You know what they say about "assuming." The best way to keep your mastermind group alive and kicking is to be open to changing things up, trying new things and most importantly, listening to the V.O.M. (voice of the mastermind)

The power of the mastermind comes from each member's unique experiences, knowledge and willingness to share. As the leader of the mastermind, you owe it to yourself and the group to be picky about whom you choose to invite as a member. Set the bar high! Find individuals who are smarter, more creative, more innovative and more financially savvy than you are.

It's like Jack Canfield once said, "You are the average of the five people, outside of your family, that you hang out with the most." Take the time to find the "right" members and choose to raise your average.

Success Quotes and the Mastermind Concept

Who was Napoleon Hill? Napoleon Hill was one of the earliest authors of personal success books who believed that a person's mindset was a very important indication of his future success. His motivational book "Think and Grow Rich", published in 1937, is one of the all time best selling books.

"What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve" is one of Hill's famous quotes. Hill's thoughts on success came from his interviews with, observation of, and association with several successful people beginning with Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish born American steel magnate. Success or failure, it all originates with our thoughts. Think about it!
All quotes are attributed to Napoleon Hill.

How to Create and Run a Mastermind Group

What is a Mastermind Group?

There is synergy of energy, commitment, and excitement that participants bring to a Mastermind Group. The beauty of Mastermind Groups is that participants raise the bar by challenging each other to create and implement goals, brainstorm ideas, and support each other with total honesty, respect and compassion. Mastermind participants act as catalysts for growth, devil’s advocates and supportive colleagues.

The concept of the Mastermind Group was formally introduced by Napoleon Hill in the early 1900's. In his timeless classic, "Think And Grow Rich" he wrote about the Mastermind principle as:

"The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony."

He continues ...

"No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind."

In a Mastermind Group, the agenda belongs to the group, and each person’s participation is key. Your peers give you feedback, help you brainstorm new possibilities, and set up accountability structures that keep you focused and on track. You will create a community of supportive colleagues who will brainstorm together to move the group to new heights.

You'll gain tremendous insights, which can improve your business and personal life. Your Mastermind Group is like having a objective board of directors.
